Top 4 Telecom companies in India in 2022

With population of over 139 crore, there are many telecom companies in India which are providing communication services. Among them, we list the top 4 telecom companies of India as of 2022.

The penetration of internet in India is about 50%. There are 1166.02 million wireless subscribers according to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India as of September 2021.

According to Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), there were around 20 telecom operators but now due to high competition, merger and acquisition is on rise. This made only few telecom operators stand in the list. Currently there are 4 telecom or mobile operators providing their services in India.

1. Jio:

Jio is the telecommunication company in India spreading in all 22 states. It only provides 4G LTE and voice over LTE instead of 2G and 3G. It is the largest mobile network operator in India and the third largest mobile network operator in the world with over 42.62 crore (426.2 million) subscribers.

Jio was founded in 15 February 2007 by multibillionaire Mukesh Ambani.

2. Airtel:

Airtel is also known as Bharti Airtel Limited, is an  Indian multinational telecommunications services company based in New Delhi, India. It operates in 18 countries across South Asia and Africa, as well as the Channel Islands. Airtel provides 2G, 4G LTE, 4G+ mobile services, fixed line broadband and voice services depending upon the country of operation.

It is the second largest mobile network operator in India and the third largest mobile network operator in the world with over 354.47 million subscribers.

3. Vodafone Idea Limited:

Vi or Vodafone Idea Limited is an Indian telecom operator with its headquarters based in Mumbai and Gandhinagar.

As of 30 september 2021, Vi has a subscriber base of 269.99 million, making it third largest mobile telecommunications network in India and 10th largest mobile telecommunications network in the world with around 269.99 million subscribers. It have been providing GSM telephony services like 2G, GPRS, 3G, LTE and VoLTE

Vodafone Telecom

On 31 August 2018, Vodafone India merged with Idea Cellular, to form a new entity named Vodafone Idea Limited.

It have been providing following products to its customers.

  • Wireless broadband
  • Internet services

4. BSNL:

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is a government owned telecommunications service provider headquartered in New Delhi, India. It is under the ownership of Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India. It was incorporated on 01 October 2000 by the Government of India.

It is the largest government owned wireline telecommunications network service provider and fourth largest wireless telecommunications service provider in India.

BSNL Telecom

Currently, BSNL have around 117 million subscribers. In 2019, Government of India have decided to merge MTNL and BSNL to thrive the competition against private telecom operators.

It have been providing following services.
