WorldLink join Facebook for Express wifi to deliver fast, affordable, reliable Wi-Fi in Nepal

The largest internet service provider (ISP) in Nepal, WorldLink Communications Ltd., has announced a partnership with Facebook Connectivity using its Express Wi-Fi platform to provide its users with fast, affordable and reliable Wi-Fi service. It helps WorldLink to improve and sustain 7,500 Wi-Fi hotspots, serving more than half a million out of its total 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Nepal.

“WorldLink has pioneered the introduction of public Wi-Fi to bridge the digital divide by allowing users around Nepal, even in some of the most remote areas, to provide internet access. The collaboration with Facebook and the deployment of Express Wi-Fi will provide a huge boost to this WorldLink CSR initiative and will enable the underconnected and underprivileged to take advantage of the internet benefits” said Mr. Dileep Agrawal, Managing Director, WorldLink. “The Express Wi-Fi platform will enhance our public Wi-Fi service and contribute to our vision of connecting fast, reliable and affordable internet services to everyone, anywhere, all the time.”

What is Express Wi-Fi by Facebook?

Express Wi-Fi by Facebook is the group of global internet connectivity initiatives by Facebook. As one of several programs under the umbrella of Facebook connectivity, it partners with mobile network operators and internet service providers to provide “fast, affordable, and reliable” internet access through public Wi-Fi hotspots. Facebook assists partners by providing a comprehensive Wi-Fi platform that partners can leverage to better manage and grow their Wi-Fi offerings.

As of now, Express Wi-Fi is active in Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, South Africa, and Tanzania. Initially, it was launched in year 2016. In Nepal also, two local internet service providers are partnering with facebook to deliver and manage the wifi services. One is worldlink in kathmandu while another is picosoftnepal.net providing service in Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.

How Express Wi-Fi works?

After we connect to the public wifi hotspots area managed by partnered ISP’s, we need to signup with our mobile number. Then we will get the OTP-One Time Password and using that OTP, we can access the internet. There is time limit for the internet access so the wifi connected will be fast for end users while partnered ISP’s can easily manage the wifi hotspots.
