According to Nepal Telecom”volte have been tested on the existing LTE 4G network and has been found successful. NT have tested the VoLTE in aimed to provide the reliable and superior voice quality in the existing 4G LTE network.”
Currently there are 3 operators NTC,Ncell and Smartcell providing LTE network. But among them NT become the first operator in the country to successfully test VoLTE. However, NT have been providing LTE in Kathmandu and Pokhara only but they are expanding the network. While, Ncell, rival of Nepal telecom have already providing 4G service in over 1000 places and reached all 7 province.
After this test, NT is planning to provide volte service in Nepal in existing network. So the NT customers having volte supported handsets can avail this service.
But, still most of smartphone users in Nepal are not aware of volte technology. So to adopt this next generation services may take more time than expected because Nepal telecom 4G LTE network is limited only in Kathmandu and Pokhara. However, the adaptability speed of new technology in Nepal by customers is very fast and NT will surely gain more users using VoLTE services.
On the other hand, CG telecom is expected to officially launch its 4G services by the end of 2019. For this, CG telecom is doing homework for 4G expansion throughout the country and have done contract recently with Chinese telecom manufacturer and provider, Huawei. But, it’s not sure whether CG telecom will lauch VoLTE or not but according to CEO Binod Chaudhary, “CG Telecom will make free voice calls after its commercially launch”. “Further, they will also adopt 5G technology very soon” as stated by Chaudhary.
So, now its time to wait and see when NT will commercially launch VoLTE services to its customers. It would be excited as VoLTE service will be the first time in Nepal after Nepal Telecom successfully tested it.
